Here's the latest and greatest from the "hot garage" in steamy Louisiana. This is my first "lighted" upcycled bird house!
This is my first "lighted" bird house! I started with an old blue collar metal hard hat that had a lot of naturally chipped red paint. The bird hole (1 1/2") has a copper finish awning over it that I made from a reclaimed piece from a broken bird feeder top. The "shutters" are old vegetable steamer fins. The perch is an old garden faucet handle (Etsy: scrapyardgirl) with an old soda bottle cap on top. The sides of the house feature some old, distressed drawer handles. Up top, I used the chrome strip from a vintage typewriter with a t-handle from a vintage aluminum candy tray. Numbers from an old license plate were used as the "9" and "2". At the bottom, I used the top strainer cup from the interior of an old aluminum coffee pot. Inside is a push button operated 3-LED light fixture. Batteries can be changed but turning the housing to release it from its backing plate that is mounted to the bird house. For the backing of the hard hat/ bird house, I custom cut the metal sheet from an old brass platter and mounted to brackets from some flattened copper-plated hardware. Another upcycling success!
Here are the measurements...
Height: 13.5"; Width (side to side): 10.75"; Depth (front to back): 8".
