Here's the latest birdhouse creation! It's my first duplex design with a completed separated two-compartment interior. Birdholes are on both opposite sides.
I began creating this birdhouse with the intention of creating my first "duplex" birdhouse. I wanted birds to be able to nest in their own space from both sides. I started with a copper sauce pan and gave it a shallow frying pan as the base (upside down). I then cut and modified some silver filigree from a silver warming rectangle dish tray holder. I used some metal came from my stained glass supplies to accent the bird holes with a custom cut segmented piece. I used an old metal large lampshade for the roof creating a cottage look. A cup piece from a distressed rain chain sits atop the roof. I cut and turned the handles from the saucepan and mounted them to the bottom frying pan upside down to make perches. And to compete it, I used some metal filigree pattern metal from an old bathroom light fixture and custom painted it to match the color scheme. On the inside, I custom cut some galvanized metal sheeting to make the divider for the duplex. It follows the shape of the conical roof to keep the bird families separate and happy.
