I LOVE running across these old little space heaters. I've only had the chance to do one other Arvin brand space heater. They have great structures.
I decided to make this one function with a feeding platform on both sides and also inside. Each platform has small holes for rainwater to drain.
I cut a vintage silverplate tray in half to make each platform and used some brass handles from an old casserole tray. Copper wire supports the platforms that are soldered on. I then cut in half a small brass tray to serve as awnings on both sides. Another silverplate bowl was cut up in segments for the adornment on top of the awnings.
I added some metal came (stained glass supplies) on the edges of the cutouts/openings to jazz it up a bit. I stamped the word "FLY" onto copper metal pieces and soldered them to both sides. Vintage silverplate spoon parts sit above those.
I cut away the bottom sides of the center housing so that tossed seed could fall out and not get stuck in the corners and get old. I foresee this being a popular destination for birds in the prospective owner's yard!
