This is my first birdhouse that incorporates stained glass. I hope to make some more exploring ways to use stained glass in the near future. This one started as a housing box for a large oil funnel. Why it needed a box, I have no idea. Luckily, the funnel can be used on another project.
I tried to keep this one pretty industrial looking. I used napkin ring pieces at the front edges mimicing luggage braces or something similar. The perch came from an old flour sifter. The awning was quite a chore. A part was taken and modified from a typewriter and then I used pieces that were modified from typewriter key arms as the braces and soldered them onto the awning. The rest of the pieces came together pretty quickly. The stained glass panels started with cutouts on the sides of the box and then I made a frame with some stained glass came bars. A support piece is inside vertically and it all came together with some solder. An outdoor spotlight corded fixture brings in the light socket with a CFL bulb in place to bring on the bright light. A cool thing is that the front bird hole casts a spotlight out onto any facing surfaces along with the glowing side panels.
This great birdhouse is ready to go and can be yours in my Etsy Shop (HERE).
